WEEKEND PHOTOS

Today-

Photo 1-

Practice for your weekend assignment- Panorama on Steroids. Panorama on Steroids. Follow the link on panorama on steroids and you will get the idea on how to do it. It is not exactly a challenging item, but it is something that takes some thought. This type of work was made famous by an artist named David Hockney. Photojournalist Trent Nelson also does this for the Salt Lake Tribune. THIS ONE is shown small on the link, but you can see that he shot literally hundreds of images of John Stockton during one game, and then assembled them. Each one of the bodies in that image are of John Stockton. Another way to do this assignment is as a sequence, such as THIS. Notice on this one how he made some images larger than other, making those moments stand out more and give the image more balance. The subject matter is up to you, as long as it is school appropriate and YOU TAKE THE PHOTOS. The key is to be zooming in and looking for details on the bigger picture.

HERE is one by Trent Nelson, just a few photos, but along the same idea. ONE MORE

Your panoramic on steroids should consist of at least 30-40 individual frames. Yes, I did say 30-40 individual frames.  If you have more than that- fantastic, you are only going to help your grade.

Look at magazine covers!
WEEKEND ASSIGNMENT- Same as Photo 1. Panorama on Steroids. Similar to what we did before, but a little bit different.
For today’s post- Since we are being inspired by the work of the amazing Photojournalist Trent Nelson, let’s look at some more of his work. Take a look at some of his BEST WORK. What do you think of his work? If you could tell him, directly, what you like and or don’t like about it (and be constructive), what would you say? Who knows, maybe he will read this post! (Personally, I love the way he can get humor in photography- this is very hard to do and he is so great at it)

Today-

For all- Next week, on Friday, you will be receiving your EOCA list of photos that you need to take. If you are gone next Friday, you need to get on the blog and see the list. It will not be given out early.

Photo 1- Look at Free choice photos for half the period, then in class shoot. Hope you brought your cameras!

BRING YOUR CAMERAS AGAIN TOMORROW

Photo 2- Last day to work on, and get turned in, your Magazine covers. From what I have seen, there is a big improvement from last time. Looking good!

For today’s post- “I would say to any artist: ‘Don’t be repressed in your work, dare to experiment, consider any urge, if in a new direction all the better.’” -Edward Weston  (if you need it, repressed means to restrain, hold back).

Edward Weston  is one of the all-time greats of photography. What do you think of his quote? His words of advice? Do you try to push your work? Try new things even if it means you may not be 100% successful? What can you learn from this quote? How will you try to use this information (not just in photography, but other parts of your life)?

Today-

Photo 1- For your blog post, we are going to watch an episode of Travels to the Edge, this time we are traveling to the New Zealand! As always, if any of you have rich relatives that want to pay for a field trip for us all, this would be a great location to go to for a photo field trip. :) After watching, write what you learned from it, what you liked about it. Does watching these videos make you want to be a travel photographer? Why or why not? What did you learn that is not photo related?

BRING CAMERA TOMORROW!

Photo 2- Continue working on Magazine II. Due Wednesday at the end of the period.

Make a new canvas- 8X10 @200ppi. Come up with a creative title for the magazine, choose a matching font. Come up with some ideas for feature articles that would be in the magazine. Be sure to include the small details such as – month, year, volume number, bar code for purchasing it, cost of the magazine.  Do a Google Image search for magazine cover to get an idea of what else is on the cover! Make it as real as possible.

Think about (and will be graded on)

  • Overall visual impact
  • Clear communication of Magazine concept
  • Quality of graphic images
  • Appropriate use of graphic elements, including color
  • Legibility of text
  • Strength of layout
  • Presentation of work

For Today’s post-

Photo 1After watching, write what you learned from it, what you liked about it. Does watching these videos make you want to be a travel photographer? Why or why not? What did you learn that is not photo related?

Photo 2- THIS photo really intrigued me. The lighting, the action in it, the openness of it…. write a short school appropriate story about this photo. (Or…. how does this photo make you feel? How do you think the photographer wants you to feel when looking at the photo? Why did the photographer create this image? Is it setup or an actual captured moment? why?)

Today-

Photo 1- Get your photos downloaded, I will come around and check for the 20 points (at least 20 photos). Make the photos look beautiful and fantastic. Graded on- Focus, exposure, white balance, use of depth of field, creativity, etc.

Turn it into the FREE CHOICE assignment folder by the end of period.
