Lots and lots and lots of cameras
May 20, 2008 by cdaphoto
First– I will be showing you today how to swap the heads on the manbaby project. It is not complicated but it has been a while since we have done Photoshop work so you will need to watch as a refresher course. I will also be doing another check on who brought your baby photos. I hope that more brought them today than yesterday!!
Second– Be working on your book-frame project! It is due on Thursday!! Get your print done. Remember, if you have lost your photo paper or you have used it all, you will need to get a piece from a friend or buy some from the school (3 sheets for a dollar). If you need to work some to get the paper, there is always cleaning that can be done.
Question- How many cameras does it take to photograph a horse race? Or how about how many cameras that are not being held by someone can take photos at a horse race? Read here to find out. Comment about what you see and read.
Remote cameras are triggered either by a cable or wireless transmitter, allowing a photographer to shoot multiple angles of an important moment like the finish of a horse race. They can provide an usually high or low angle to vary the type of pictures we like to provide to our clients. On news assignments remotes can also yield an alternative angle from a tight position or one that does not allow a camera to be hand held. The only limit to shooting remotes is the photographer’s imagination!!

Thats a lot of work setting every thing up, making sure they all work, then adding remotes and wires and making sure they work again and trying not to get them wet from rain and the track wetter guy, and always testing them. id be tired after the first setting up and adding reomotes and making sure they work right, but they do it all day before the race even gets close to starting
First, that is alot of cameras! That must take some time to set up too. The article on this wasnt that interesting but the pictures make it better i guess.
That’s a lot of cameras, it probably takes a while to set up too. Todays story wasn’t very interesting, and I don’t know what else to say. Okay.
Holy smokes! That’s alot of cameras!!! As I told my friend, it would be funny and/or crazy if a horse were to fall super hard along the edge and take out every camera. Only if the guy were miraculously okay. Not perfect, but okay. Not much more I can say about that.
The artical isn’t that interesting but the pictures that were posted were cool to look at. that is a lot of cameras to have to set up. But it looks cool and they take some cool pictures
Haha, when I saw the title “Lots and Lots and Lots of cameras,” I just assumed you were about to go off on us for not getting cameras back or something. I guess the mass riot of cameras could be cool, cumbersome and difficult to keep track of, but cool. I’m not going to lie, Twitchell; it will be extremely awkward seeing my dad’s head on my tiny little two-year old body.
Thats prettty cool. They used so many cameras it’s ridiculous. For me, it would take years to set those all up. That would be a mighty hard job. Oh I wish joey would not read my screen, I mean seriously mind your own business! just joking calm down.

It had to be over a hundred cameras one guy alone had 15 on him, but that was very interesting cause usually we only get one picture and they talk about the picture. Now we know that it takes allot of cameras to get the photo they can’t just take one camera and take a photo.
Well, that’s pretty sweet that you can take pictures from all angles just with remotes and such. I certainly wouldn’t have thought of that. Though, it’d be a drag to set it all up, ton of work involved and all.
It looks like a wall made of cameras which is kind of cool looking, true story.
Woa!! That’s a ton of cameras! That probably would take a really long time to set up all the cameras. Those pictures were really cool on the site though.
I didnt really lik ethe artical but i like all the photos and WOW they use alot of settings and use a bunch of cameras!
That is amazing how they are able to set up all the cameras and be able to get shots like that. Although having all of those cameras on the inside rail could have considerable issues with horses that are racing. The fact that if those cameras spook any one horse it could cause broken legs and death to the rest of the horses. But it is definitly a great way to get the perfect shot.
I didn’t really like the article. It wasn’t that interesting. It lost my interest after the first paragraph and then I just looked at the pictures. I liked the pictures. The story, not so much.
holy capola!
thats alot of cameras for one shot!!!
hahaha woooow!!!
fun fun though i dont think i would ever like to do,lots of work.
So that is a lot of cameras but i would expect for such a high speed multiple frame photography project you would want every frame possible.
* The water truck drowning the cameras and/or short-circuiting our wired connectors.
* Ditto rain, destroying thousands of dollars worth of equipment.
* An errant camera firing indiscriminantly and without warning, setting off all the other cameras in your chain.
* Getting the right exposure until the sun goes behind a big cloud = everything underexposed.
* At the criticial moment forgetting to step on the footswitch, or stepping on it too early and then every camera’s memory buffer fills up and temporarily stops shooting at the exact moment you need them all to be shooting.
* Another photographer moving your camera because it’s in the way of his own.
* Another photographer thinking that your precisely-setup camera is his own, deciding that all your settings are wrong, and changing them.
* Camera batteries dying halfway through the race.
* The winning horse finishes about 50 feet outside of the rail and becomes a small dot on all your remote cameras.
* Pre-focusing in the wrong place. Out of focus = unusable.
* Lens flare from the sun screwing with your exposure.
* Someone accidently cuts your trigger cable with a shovel as they ”helpfully” try to bury them out of the way in the mud.
* Forgetting to turn the cameras on after eight hours of waiting, or forgetting to put memory cards in the cameras, or not formatting (erasing) the card so that the card is already full from all the test pictures and therefore has no room for the “money shots”.
* Another photographer using your wireless transmitter frequency and filling your cameras cards with images of nothing but test frames before the race starts.
* Police calling in over the radio for extra donuts in the infield and using radio frequencies that interfere with your signal getting to your camera and firing it.
* Batteries on the transmitter dying before the race
* Someone stepping on your footswitch and filling all the cards on all your remotes with images of nothing before the race starts.
Thats a lot of things to prepare for.
WOW thats alot of work for only about 10 pictures a camera and one in the news paper. But it seems like it would be fun, I mean seting it all up, making sure you take the picture at the right moment because if you dont you just wasted all of your work =( but that is what makes it fun knowing that at any moment you could screw everything up, or you could take the best picture ever!
Thats pretty sweet how they use like a million cameras to photograph the races!!! But then again it’s kinda freaky because it looks like a gazzilion alien eyes staring..haha Technology these days is so overated.. people are getting toooo lazy…
<3
Okay, so pretty much.
I thought there would be less cameras involved with doing a sencranization.
Hmm.
Oh well.
Whoaaaa. That is alottttt of cameras right there twitch. jeeeezzzzzz.
Wow!
That’s a lot of pictures.
They have a very cool angle.
The pictures are very interesting.
That must have taken a long time to set up.
Wow. it looks like a camera tree. I would rather have like 10 people get in a line and hold the cameras, cuz thats lame scauce to set all of that up.
I think that this is really cool. I would love to see this in person. But I also think that this could be somewhat hard to do. Even though it looks like alot of fun and I would love to do this I think that it would be hard to shoot that fast. Its totally sweet though.
Holy cow, uh that would take me ages to set up a do. Other than that that is pretty cool! Horse races thou, are extremely fast paced and such so it isn’t really that stunning to know that that is how much is involved!
wow. that is alot of cameras ! and the article was not really interesting to me but i really liked the photos in it so its all good now …
oh my gosh i hate rain so much
just thought that you would like to know that haha.
That is a lot of cameras for just one picture in the news paper WOW! I did not know that it took that many. What do they do with all of the photos they did not use in the paper?
Whoa now thats some crazy stuff right there. That is a lot of cameras is ridiculous! talk about a gazillion years to set them up. Yet it is really neat how they set them all up to get those good pictures
That is a pretty intense camera. I would not want to be the one to have to set all of those up. But they must come up with some prett sweet pictures.
Yeah twitchell you have out done yourself on finding a bajillion cameras in one area. That’s pretty intense yo. So yeah with all the cameras there, i’m sure that they will have a lot of photos.
This story was alright, it’s pretty nifty how he has so many cameras, all controlled by remote. But that’d be a huge pain to set up and take it all down. I’d probably just carry it by the pole and leave everything on there, I don’t know, that’d still be a pain. I went to a wedding on Saturday, it was pretty fun. I also rode a tandem this weekend, that was probably the funnest thing I’ve done in a long long long long long long time. I fell about 2 bajillion times, that was the best part. It’s actually rather difficult. But way cool, I think I’m going to buy one, I’ve been looking at them on ebay, They are like ten dollars. But the thing that really gets you, is the 200$ shipping!
So basically these photo’s of the winning horse are amazing! It blows my mind as to how many cameras are placed on the race track.
That’s pretty amazing! That is a lot of money for all of those cameras and all they used to protect from the truck sprayer is a trash bag? Seems kind of stupid to me but at least they seem got the shot. The shots actually turned out really good I’m just wondering if the cameras are okay.
Well I thought it only took 1 camera to take a picture of anything… I guess I was wrong. That is a sweet invention how someone can take the same photograph but at every angle possible. Also to have them all wireless and connected together so no actually physical holding or pushing of the button is needed. So the photographer in the end can get every perfect photograph but not have to move one camera back and forth taking blurry pictures trying to get every angle. Over all very neat but alittle weird… good idea exspecially because you can only get that one photograph once sense it is a race and you cant replay it.
I think that they put waaaaay too much time into setting up cameras for a horse race lol. But i think it’s really cool what they do and how many different angles they get of the race. It sounds like it takes a lot of work just to set up the cameras for this event. But it also looks like it pays off.
Well that is quite a bit of cameras for one picture in the paper. I don’t like horses they scare me. But I guess having alot of cameras makes sense. Being that it is a big event. Yeah, have a good day Twitchell. Peace.
Well I think that is crazy having that many cameras. I wonder how many of the pictures taken will actually be used. This would be a waste of time in my opinion.
wow there were a lot of cameras there. That is a cool set up for all of them though. That would be fun to do.
That is a lot of cameras. I diddn’t think that that article was very interusting but i like that picture of all of the cameras. I don’t think that it is neccisary to have that many cameras under the circumstances but they don’t really care.
Wow okay so thats alot of cameras thats kinda odd that they use so many… but i guess if you want a good shot then you might as well have alot of cameras right.
Wow okay so thats alot of cameras thats kinda odd that they use so many but i guess if you want a good shot then you might as well have alot of cameras right.
Why in the world would you need that many cameras i think one i just enough
wow thats alot of camerass!
cool pictures, why do they need so many??
It took alot of cameras to take pictures at the house race. most of them wer’nt even being held by anyone just set on the ground and taking pictures.
yeah, that is a lot of cameras, but not very interesting, is all i know is i would hate to have that job….
man o man that would take for ever let me tell you
Wow that’s a lot of cameras but I guess it is realistic at a horse race where things happen so fast.
I love horses. I have two! I have yet to go to a horse race though. That is amazing how many cameras they have taking the photos. I always thought that the pictures taken were by people individually. Now I know that they are set up. Very interesting. Would some of them be blurred?
lots and lots of cammeras. . . . prity cameras too. remote camera shooting seems boringgggg though. . .=/
how long do you think it takes them to set all those up i mean it crazy. and all the cameras sitting on the track floor WOW i dont think i would ever do that but thats carzy but the picture that caught my eye the most was this one………The 133rd running of the Preakness Stakes horse race was held in Baltimore ok maybe it wont paste but its the one of the shelf like thing holding like a billion cameras. ive never seen so many lens at once!!!!!!!!
Dangg, that’s a lotttt of cameras. I completely lost what they were talking about after reading the first couple paragraphs, but it sounds like way to much work, if only one or two of the shots till actually be used.
Hahaa, till = will. Mybadd. :/
I think that is a lot of cameras!! I brought my baby picture!! I am excited!! This is gonna be so fun, and we’re gonna be like, whoa!!
i thought that was pretty cool, i guess. Your **** chair just pinched my fricken hand!! what the heck???
Geez, that seems more like an electrician’s job than a photographer’s. It’s intense. Hard to imagine that much stuff would happen. I remember seeing a picture you posted a link to a slide show about a Gonzaga basksetball player (GO ZAGS!) that was one of the photographers (one of the best in the world) favorite basketball pictures, as it was Mark Fews’ favorite. It was taken with a remote, and you look at the picture.. wow. It was amazing. (I think it was Frahm, something close to that). But the idea of using a remote just turns me off to the idea of photography. It makes it sound less fun, you have less control. I can understand not being able to focus in as fast manually or something in a horse race, but it just seems like it takes some of the fun out of it.
Thats sooo many cameras! And thats sooo much work to be done for only a few photos, craaazy.
I’m developing film today, wooo.
well, that doesnt really seem like a photographers jon. But it was pretty rad i guess you could put it as… i wonder how many cameras they used..::) radddddddd
I think that having that many cameras to operate would take a lot of work not to mention a lot of work to set up. They took really cool shots though and took all different kinds of angles during the horse race. The article wasn’t as interesting as the pictures were though.
Thats alot of camera’s. i wonder how many camera’s they used. But the pictures were pretty sweet.
Wow that is a heck of alot of cameras! It probably took a long time to set all of them up! The artical was pretty boring though. But the pictures were pretty interesting.
WOW! cameras much.
yea I think nott.
okay well hmm. umm
that was pretty steller.
(:
Okay.
That is alot of cameras.
And also alot of pictures.
AND alot of work for just a couple of pictures to be used.
That is alot of camera’s. I would think you would get alot of good shots with all of those camera’s. I would love to have one of those camera’s they look really nice. I don’t know what I would do with it because it is os big but I wou;d like to have one.
That is a ton of cameras! Technically it only takes one camera to take a picture, but there are tons of cameras set up- that is crazy.
That is a lot of cameras! I wonder why they would want to do all of that! that’s amazing that they couod do it all in about 10 houtrs! It would take us 10 days.
It’s pretty interesting how much technology there is to get one shot determining which horse wins. As for the manbabies thing- I still think it is freaky. And for the the photo book- I wish there was more time to get the prints perfect.
That is insane.
That is a lot of cameras and camera-parts. I understand that must have took a long time to put up and make everything reday before the race. They also had 5 people covering it adn try to take as good picutres ad possible. There got to be a lot of money out there on the field trying to get the best picture of it.
I think that it is pritty smart of them to do that because it shows all of the different angles of the horse. Some people preffer different views of there horse because of how they like to think of them but some people like others. Therefore it is a good idea. =]
too many cameras.
that is alot of flappin cameras…. anyways i want to go to a kentucky and watch the horsies……….. it probably wont happen but my momma always says to dream BIG so i do! btw i am singing at a concert tonight so i am kinda nervous because i am going to sing a song be the movie greece and will be dancing in a big black poodle skirt!!!!!!! lata
i dont like the article really i like the pictures.
They use ALOT of cameras for the horse races!
But of course they have to get all the different angles of where the horses are. And it goes so fast so they don’t have time to move the cameras around.
Thats so many cameras, i wonder how many they decided to use, cool though
ps i was absent, so this is my post for yesterday!
